Winter sports with children, without ski-village prices
With children you look for three things: a practice slope by the car park, a pass that does not cost as much as an adult's, and in the evening a place where you cook yourself and the children sleep while you are still up. From Feld am See you have two ski areas with practice slopes within twenty minutes, a child's pass at € 36.50, and an apartment of up to 86 m² with two bedrooms.
Bad Kleinkirchheim with children
The largest area, a quarter of an hour's drive, with practice slopes in the valley and at St. Oswald. Children born 2012 to 2020 pay € 36.50 per day and € 191 for six days; accompanied by an adult, a further 10 per cent off the day pass. Ski schools and childcare at the valley stations. The free Ski-Express takes you there without a car.
Klösterle on the Gerlitzen: the first turns
For beginners, Klösterle near Arriach is the best entry nearby: you park by the piste, the practice centre with two conveyor belts and two drag lifts is next to the car, and the Klösterlebahn takes the parents up. Twenty minutes from the house. Child pass € 36.50.
When it does not snow, or stops
The Therme St. Kathrein with the 86-metre slide and the wild-water channel, family packages 10 per cent cheaper, children under 6 free. The natural ice rink at Tennisanlage Krainer in the village, free and floodlit until 9 pm. Two natural toboggan runs in Bad Kleinkirchheim. And the Nocky Flitzer on the Turracher Höhe, an alpine coaster that runs in winter too.
The apartment
Eule has 86 m², two bedrooms and room for six; Fuchs 56 m² for two to four with its own terrace. A full kitchen, so pasta at six and no restaurant with a tired child. Downstairs a heated ski room where the boots are warm in the morning, and bread rolls at the door.
Christmas and half term
School holidays are the busiest weeks in the ski areas and with us. If you want Christmas or the February half term, ask early; we reply within a day with what is still free.
