Four lakes, one address

Brennsee, Afritzer See, Millstätter See and Ossiacher See from Feld am See

We are not on the Millstätter See. We are a quarter of an hour from it, with the Ossiacher See half an hour away and the Afritzer See round the corner, and we sit on the quietest of them all: the Brennsee, at the door, with no motorboats and water up to 25 °C in summer. Feld am See belongs to the Millstätter See, Bad Kleinkirchheim and Nockberge holiday region, and you notice that in the choice you have. A different lake every day, and home in the evening to the quiet one.

The Brennsee

At the door, a few minutes on foot

The lake the house is named after. On the north shore, along the Seestraße, access to the water is free, with showers and toilets. You swim, paddleboard, sail and wingfoil here, and with the Sonnenschein Card you get from us the water-sports lesson is free. The water mirrors in the morning; in the evening all you hear is the wind.

The Afritzer See

4 km, 5 minutes by car or a quarter of an hour by bike

The twin lake, a little further along the same valley. Strandbad Friessner on the south shore is the place for anyone travelling with a dog: there it may swim from a far corner of the lido, which is not allowed in the Brennsee. The 2-Seen-Runde along both lakes is a flat bike ride that works with children too.

The Millstätter See

11 km, a quarter of an hour to Döbriach

The big lake of the region, with Döbriach on the east shore as the nearest beach. A Millstätter See day from Feld am See looks like this: the Slow Trail along the south shore in the morning, the lido in the afternoon, and back for dinner by the Brennsee. The cycle route around the lake is 28 kilometres, the boat line sails from village to village, and above Millstatt stands the Granattor at 2,060 metres.

The Ossiacher See

26 km, half an hour to Steindorf

The lake below the Gerlitzen. In summer you combine the Kanzelbahn up the mountain with an afternoon by the water; in winter it is the same mountain you ski on, about twenty minutes from Feld am See via Klösterle. Ossiach Abbey and the concerts of the Carinthischer Sommer festival are the cultural side of a day at this lake.

Feld am See belongs to that holiday region, and the map shows why: the big lake on one side, the ski area on the other, and the Nockberge above. Sleeping here means you never have to choose between lake and mountain. You choose each day.

No. The house is on the Brennsee in Feld am See, 11 kilometres and a quarter of an hour's drive from Döbriach on the Millstätter See. Feld am See does belong to the same holiday region, Millstätter See – Bad Kleinkirchheim – Nockberge.

Which lake is closest?+

The Brennsee, a few minutes on foot. The Afritzer See is 4 kilometres away in the same valley; by bike you are there in a quarter of an hour.

Which lake is warmest?+

The Millstätter See and the Ossiacher See reach up to 27 °C in summer, the Brennsee and the Afritzer See up to 25 °C. The Brennsee and the Afritzer See have water of drinking-water quality.

Can I reach the other lakes without a car?+

You can cycle to the Afritzer See in a quarter of an hour on the 2-Seen-Runde. For the Millstätter See and the Ossiacher See a car is most practical; by bike the Millstätter See via Radenthein is an hour's ride.

Where can my dog go in the water?+

At Strandbad Friessner on the Afritzer See, from a far corner of the lido. Dogs are not allowed in the water in the Brennsee. Mention your dog in your enquiry and we will explain how it works on the spot.

Is the Ossiacher See worth a trip in winter too?+

The mountain above it is: the Gerlitzen is one of the two large ski areas close by, about twenty minutes via Klösterle near Arriach. The lake itself does not freeze reliably; for skating, look to the Brennsee and the Afritzer See during a long frost.
